Cyclone Power Technologies and Advent Power Systems Win $1.4 Million Development Contract from U.S. Army
Pompano Beach FL, - August 1, 2011 Cyclone Power Technologies (Pink Sheets: CYPW), developer of the all-fuel, clean-tech Cyclone Engine, and its licensee, Advent Power Systems, Inc. announced that they have been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army / TACOM (Tank Automotive Command) valued at $1.4 million. With this contract, Cyclone and Advent will develop a compact 10kW auxiliary power unit (APU) designed to increase operating efficiencies and decrease fuel usage of various ground combat vehicles.
The all-fuel capable 10kW APU/genset, to be built on Cyclones award-winning Rankine cycle engine technology, will be designed to eliminate the need for the main drive engines to provide auxiliary power in combat vehicles. The practice of idling these engines wastes fuel, increases exhaust and heat emissions, and shortens vehicle engine life. Current targeted applications are for use in the Abrams M1 Main Battle Tank, the Stryker Armored Vehicle and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. It is anticipated that these designs will also support future vehicle platforms.
