RI Supreme Court Upholds Block Island Wind Farm Power Contract
July 1, 2011 - A Rhode Island Supreme Court ruling today paves the way for Deepwater Wind to advance the permitting and development of its planned Block Island Wind Farm, which remains on track to be the first offshore wind farm in the nation.
The Supreme Court upheld Deepwater Wind’s power purchase agreement with National Grid for the renewable energy generated from the planned Block Island Wind Farm. The Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission had approved the power purchase contract in August 2010.

California grows wind energy market and reaps the benefits, encouraging 20,000 dealmakers to head to Anaheim in 10 days
Washington, D.C., May 10, 2011 – Spurred on by California's new 33-percent clean energy target, 20,000 members and supporters of the wind energy industry will head to Anaheim, Calif., in 10 days for the WINDPOWER 2011 Conference & Exhibition, May 22-25.
"The renaissance of California's wind power market will be a hot topic at WINDPOWER this year, and many of the speakers will focus on the business opportunities there, as well as benefits to ratepayers and communities," said Denise Bode, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association.
Companies of all sizes will be making deals to build and develop more wind power, joined by government officials, utilities, investors, and economic development promoters.

First Wind, Algonquin and Emera Announce Partnership Involving First Wind's Northeast Projects
Boston, MA, Oakville, ON and Halifax, NS, May 2, 2011 - First Wind Holdings, LLC (First Wind), (TSX - AQN): Algonquin Power and Utilities Corp. (Algonquin) and (TSX - EMA) Emera Inc. (Emera) announced on April 30 that they have entered into an agreement to jointly construct, own and operate wind energy projects in the Northeast U.S.
First Wind has a 370 Megawatt (MW) portfolio of wind energy projects in the Northeast U.S. including five operating projects and two projects near operation. These assets will become part of an operating company of which First Wind will own 51%. Emera and Algonquin are entering into a separate joint venture (Northeast Wind), which will own 49% of the operating company. Emera will initially own 75% of Northeast Wind and Algonquin will own the balance. Northeast Wind will invest a total of $333 million to acquire the 49% ownership of the operating company. This includes a $150 million loan to the operating company. The loan will be repaid within 5 years, or convert to equity in future projects.

Eneco Announces Location of Offshore Wind Park
Thursday 17th February 2011 - The location for a proposed offshore wind park off the Dorset and Hampshire coasts and to the west of the Isle of Wight, which will provide enough renewable power for between 615,000 and 820,000 homes, has been announced by Eneco, developers of the project.
In January 2010, The Crown Estate awarded Eneco a 279 square mile area of the seabed to explore the most suitable place to locate a wind park with an approximate capacity of at least 900MW. Over the past year, Eneco has been appraising the area and has concluded that a project of between 900MW and 1200MW of capacity could be located in the northern part of the awarded area, a site which covers 76 square miles.
