PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- NRG Energy and First Solar announced plans to build a solar project in California that would generate enough energy to meet the annual demands of 25,000 homes.

First Solar would provide NRG Energy with engineering and construction services on a 66 megawatt solar power project in Lancaster, Calif., northeast of Los Angeles.

Shoppers Help Harvest $2 Million for School Gardens

Whole Kids School Garden Grant Program accepting applications through Dec. 31

 

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In just six weeks, Whole Foods Market shoppers donated more than $2 million in stores and online to support the School Garden Grant Program, the first major initiative of the Whole Kids Foundation. In partnership with FoodCorps, the Foundation will fund $2,000 grants for schools in the U.S. and Canada to support the launch or expansion of school gardens.

 
Created to help schools grow students' relationships with food through gardening, the School Garden Grant Program stems from the Foundation's mission to support nutrition education in schools. With the $2 million raised by shoppers and the $235,000 received from Whole Foods Market's Living Social offer, which donated $.50 to the nonprofit per deal purchased, the Foundation will fund more than 1,000 school gardens.

Bon Jovi Opens Donation-Based Restaurant

 

RED BANK, N.J., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Rocker Jon Bon Jovi has opened a non-profit restaurant in Red Bank, N.J., that targets poverty and hunger through its community kitchen concept.

There are no prices on the menu at Soul Kitchen, which opened Wednesday in a former auto body shop in Bon Jovi's home state. Diners can earn meals through volunteer hours in the kitchen or the local community. Cash donations are accepted from those who are able to pay.

Converted Organics Secures Financing for Industrial Wastewater Project in Colorado 

 

BOSTON, Sept. 27, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Converted Organics Inc. (OTCBB:COIN) announced today that the Company has signed an agreement with South Canyon Waste Systems, LLC (SCWS) to provide financing for the Industrial Wastewater (IWW) project at the South Canyon Landfill in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Under the agreement, SCWS will provide the remaining capital needed for the previously completed installation of the patented LM-HT™ Wastewater Concentrator. The LM-HT™ Wastewater Concentrator is used to process industrial wastewater at the landfill.
